Digital Digest: Digital Health and Social Care Monthly Bulletin Wednesday 2 July 2025
Hello and welcome to the second edition of Digital Digest, the new monthly update from the Digital Health and Social Care team.
June has been an exciting month, with the refresh of our Digital Human Rights Principles playing a big part. We hosted an event on 24 June considering whether the Principles, developed in 2021, are still fit for purpose. Participants came from a variety of backgrounds, bringing new energy and making thought-provoking contributions. We are currently collating the feedback and will then look at the future of the Principles.
I also had the privileged of being a judge for the Scottish Care Care Tech Assembly Awards 2025. The winners, announced at the Assembly on 19 June, were impressive leaders in integration, innovation, sustainability and inclusive tech. Congratulations to them!
June has also seen the Scottish Government publish its Service Renewal Framework for Health and Social Care. This outlines powerful ambitions for health and social care over the next 10 years. Digital features strongly, including a commitment to the first iteration of Digital Front Door.
Thanks for reading and enjoy the bulletin.

Scottish Government sets out ambitious change for health and social care
The Scottish Government has published its Health and Social Care Service Renewal Framework. The publication will serve as a high-level guide to achieving a ‘Scotland where people live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives…’.
It sets out ambitious change for health and social care over the next 10 years. Focussing on five principles: prevention, people, community, population and digital.
With regards to digital, there will be greater use of technology. Focussing on technology that is already available, to give people more choice and control over their own health and wellbeing. Recognising that information sharing must be improved to achieve this, as people’s health and social care information is often held in silos.
Digital inclusion will be mainstreamed across health and social care and people will be supported to be digitally included.
It sets out some actions, including:
- First iteration of the Digital Front Door, the future platform where people will be able to access health services and information.
- Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to predict people’s needs and creation of an AI Framework to ensure safe, efficient and ethical use.
- Redesign of NHS Inform to make it easier for people to find trusted health information.
Review of the Human Rights Principles for Digital Health and Social Care
The ALLIANCE is leading on a review of the Principles, which were coproduced in 2021 in partnership with VOX Scotland and Scottish Care.
The review process began in April 2025 with the publication of ‘Benefits and outcomes of digital in the context of health and social care’, a collation of our work over the last five years.
In the build up to our event on Tuesday 24 June, we engaged with people at the ALLIANCE conference and reached out to the Digital Citizen Panel. Our event welcomed people with an array of lived, personal and professional experience around accessing/providing support to access digital health and social care services. Participants offered great input into two workshop activities, offering insight into their current experiences and their visions for the future, including shaping the human rights principles.
We will now collate this, share it with our partners and report back to our participants. We look forward to sharing the progress with you.
Every Tuesday the Discover Digital team at the ALLIANCE shares a free and trusted digital tool that supports health and wellbeing. This month, we shared 4 tools: Mind Yer Time, Jointly, Blethr and Silvercloud.
We will be hosting the ALLIANCE 'Digital Get Together 2025: how to stay human rights focused in a digital Scotland' on 21 October at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow.
Please save the date, more details will follow.
Conversation Cafe
The ALLIANCE Digital Citizen Panel hosts monthly Conversation Cafes where members can share and learn more about digital.
They are usually held online. However, the Cafes are going on tour this summer, potentially to a venue near you! Stay tuned for more updates.
