RNIB ‘Chats about apps’
RNIB have launched 6 podcast episodes exploring a range of apps helpful for people living with sight loss.
What is it?
RNIB Older People and Complex Needs Team and RNIB Technology for Life Team have developed a new podcast series called ‘Chats about apps’. This podcast series includes 6 episodes exploring a range of apps helpful for people living with sight loss and anyone wanting to know more basic information about apps and their uses in every day life.
The podcasts will describe what an app is, some app features and examples.
Who would they be helpful for?
These podcasts will be helpful for people living with sight loss and their friends/family members. They may also be helpful for people with sight loss and complex needs and for people who are supporting someone living with sight loss and complex needs.
Why was the podcast series developed?
The podcast series was recorded as lockdown started and it was hoped that the information about apps would help anyone who may be feeling less connected and help to reduce any feelings of isolation. The podcast on apps to help stay in touch with family friends would be particularly relevant to anyone who may be feeling isolated during this difficult time.
We wanted to introduce a variety of apps to people that they could use on their current devices. Topics covered within the podcasts are independent living, staying in touch, entertainment, apps for organisation and apps useful for helping getting out and about.
With this introduction to apps and basic information and demonstrations, it is hoped that people will feel more confident in using apps which may help them day to day with a variety of tasks and activities, helping to maintain or increase independence.
Where can the podcasts be found?
The podcast series can be found on the RNIB webpage (this link will take you away from our website).
The podcast series sits below the ‘supporting people with sight loss’ podcast series on this webpage. This is another podcast series developed by RNIB Older People and Complex Needs Team to offer advice and support for those who support older people living with sight loss, people with sight loss and professionals working in the field of complex needs.
