To celebrate braille’s two hundredth anniversary, RNIB are celebrating Braille 200 through events and initiatives.

To celebrate braille’s two hundredth anniversary, RNIB are celebrating Braille 200 from September 2024 until August 2025 and inviting everyone to join them in marking this huge milestone for the blind and partially sighted community.

September 2024 saw the start of a journey of celebration and discovery with the launch of the Braille and Beyond Tour which will travel across the UK. This year-long initiative invites you to join braille experts and allies in honouring the 200th anniversary of the braille code’s invention and exploring its profound impact in the lives of blind and partially sighted people.

In 1824 Louis Braille invented a tactile system that would revolutionise the world for people with sight loss and empower them to achieve things that would never before been thought possible. Braille continues to be a gateway to independence, literacy, and cultural connection for millions of blind people worldwide. When we celebrate braille, we celebrate the potential of blind people to live the lives we want without limits.

On 28 January from 10am to 3pm an event will be held at Mitchell Library, Glasgow to celebrate the invention of braille. Join a day of celebrations, information, talks and shared experiences.
