How can we address body shame and weight stigma?

Section: People and Networks Location: Glasgow City Date of event: 19/09/2019 at 10:00 - 12:00

Join the Health and Social Care Academy to discuss how services can promote health and body respect for all.

Negative attitudes towards our own and others weight lead to shame, prejudice and poorer health, making weight stigma a public health concern.

This event will explore how health and social care services in Scotland can address weight stigma and promote health and body respect for all.

We will be joined by Lucy Aphramor, an expert and author whose ‘Well Now’ approach offers an alternative vision to what is known as our current ‘weight normative’ approach.

We will also hear from someone sharing their own personal experience of weight stigma, as well as a representative of the ‘Well Now’ programme in NHS Highland, and hear how addressing weight stigma can benefit everyone’s wellbeing.

Lunch will be provided.
