Join the ALLIANCE's Person Centred Voices team to explore the role that communication can play as a driver for change.

We all have moments when we feel stressed, overstretched, and demotivated as we make our way throughout the day. Balancing work, family, and social life isn’t always easy- our minds are often overloaded, and we find ourselves in a constant juggling act.

Being human has equipped us with mental shortcuts to make life easier, and an ‘auto-pilot’ mode that helps conserve energy for situations requiring reasoning and attention- because, as you’ve probably experienced after sitting through a long presentation on a topic that doesn’t particularly interest you, attention is finite.

While these shortcuts are essential for day-to-day functioning, they also have a downside: we can end up relying on them too much. This can lead to unconscious biases that get in the way of genuine, human connection and communication.

Even seemingly simple acts of kindness- saying please and thank you, showing interest in the person next to us, or truly listening- require energy, conscious effort, and intention. Kindness is not automatic. But when we make the effort, extraordinary things can happen.

During this interactive workshop, we’ll explore how our brains use shortcuts and why biases emerge- but we won’t stop there. We’ll introduce the powerful What Matters to You? movement, rooted in intelligent kindness, active listening, psychological safety, and the principle of Civility Saves Lives.

Through interactive exercises and discussion, Person Centred Voices Development Officer, Naya Koulocheri, will share evidence highlighting how kindness can positively impact individuals, teams, and workplaces- alongside practical tools and strategies you can use to embed these values in your own organisation.

By the end of the session, we hope to have encouraged you to reflect on the power of kindness and the difference it can make in your life and in the lives of those around you. Because change, no matter how small, matters.
