Resuscitation Council UK (RCUK) seeks focus group participants to discuss planning for emergency care.
The RCUK leads on the national adoption of an emergency care planning project called the ReSPECT Process. ReSPECT stands for the Recommended Summary Plan for Emergency Care and Treatment. ReSPECT is a person-centred emergency care plan which is designed to be applicable to all patients in all care settings. It is being adopted by a range of health and social care settings across the UK, including in Scotland.
The ReSPECT process helps people, their families and carers, to think ahead about what would really matter to them in a health emergency and to express the treatment and care they would value. ReSPECT encourages an informed and open discussion between patients and health professionals where the preferences and personal wishes of the patient are truly reflected upon. This is important if a person’s illness or health condition means that in the future they may be unable to say what treatment and care they would want and what is important to them.
Through conversations, the person’s preferences and healthcare professionals’ recommendations are agreed between them, and recorded, so that they can be understood and respected by anyone involved in the person’s future care, whether in hospital or in the community.
RCUK are seeking participants for a focus group to be held at the ALLIANCE in Glasgow to inform how they describe the ReSPECT Process to the public. They would particularly value participation from those affected by a long term health condition, or anyone interested in planning ahead for future emergency care or treatment taking place at a time when they cannot decide for themselves. We want to make sure that members of the public understand the way they describe ReSPECT and find the information they provide useful. We value your input to help us make this happen.
- They would like your feedback on our key messages which describe the ReSPECT process and inform how we will communicate to the public about it.
- They are also developing a new version of the ReSPECT form, which is used to record the information agreed in a ReSPECT Process conversation. We would like your input on the proposed changes to the form and opinions on some supporting information.
