About the Session
Presented by: Tommy Whitelaw, National Lead for Person Centred Voices
This inspiring session explores how we can build more compassionate, supportive, and human‑centred environments—whether we are delivering or receiving care, advice, or support.
Drawing on his personal experience as a full‑time carer for his late mum, Joan, Tommy shares powerful reflections on the impact of kindness, empathy, and connection in health and care. His story reminds us that every interaction truly matters.
The session aligns with the Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland’s Vision for Nursing and focuses on:
Intelligent Kindness – empathy in action
What Matters to You? – understanding what matters most to people
Civility Saves Lives – creating respectful, collaborative cultures
Self-Care – sustaining we to support others
Active Listening – hearing and valuing every voice
