ALLIANCE Chief Officer, Sara Redmond, comments on the Scottish Parliament voting in favour of the National Care Service (NCS) Bill.

Commenting on the passage of the National Care Service (Scotland) Bill at Stage 1, Sara Redmond, Chief Officer of Development, Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (the ALLIANCE) said:

“The ALLIANCE welcomes the Scottish Parliament’s vote in favour of the general principles of the National Care Service Bill. We support the principle of a National Care Service, which offers an opportunity to improve people’s experiences of rights based, person centred social care.

“However, we are clear that the Bill will need substantial improvement if it is to deliver the change to social care which is needed in practice. Amendments at further stages of the Parliamentary process will need to respond to the concerns and experiences of people accessing social care and the workforce, and the Independent Review of Adult Social Care recommendations. The ALLIANCE stands ready to work together with the Scottish Government and MSPs of all parties to help make sure the National Care Service delivers the rights based, person centred social care that people need.”
