Membership and remit of the new Committee has been announced by the Scottish Parliament.
As well as looking into the Scottish Government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the committee will dive into and examine the powers handed to Holyrood as a result of the Coronavirus (Scotland) Act, which gave powers including a ban on public gatherings of more than two at a time.
The stated remit is “to consider and report on the Scottish Government’s response to COVID-19 including the operation of powers under the Coronavirus (Scotland) Act, the Coronavirus Act and any other legislation in relation to the response to COVID-19 and any secondary legislation arising from the Coronavirus (Scotland) Act and any other legislation in relation to the response to COVID-19”.
It is due to meet for the first time on Friday 24 April 2020 with membership drawn from all political parties represented in the Scottish Parliament. More information can be found on the Scottish Parliament’s website (this link will take you away from our website).
