The ALLIANCE has responded to the Equalities and Human Rights Committee's call for views on the coronavirus pandemic.

The inquiry is looking to find out which individuals and groups are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Our response highlights that not only will many people living with long term conditions, disabled people and unpaid carers be at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 itself, they will also be unequally affected by the measures taken to respond to the pandemic.

The submission makes a number of recommendations for how the Scottish Government and public bodies can seek to mitigate these impacts, including;

  • Undertaking systematic, intersectional research
  • Breaking down barriers in access to information and participation and decision making
  • Ensuring that equalities, human rights and the needs of those people most likely to be disadvantaged are at the forefront of any post-lockdown considerations.
