Exploring Courageous Leadership report launched

Section: People and NetworksType: News Item Date Published: 15th April 2019

The new report gives an overview of the recent events ran in partnership by the Academy, SSSC and CCPS.

In 2018, the Health and Social Care Academy (the Academy), Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) (this link will take you away from our website) and Coalition of Care and support Providers in Scotland (CCPS) (this link will take you away from our website) ran a series of events which asked people throughout Scotland to share their views on what it means to be a ‘courageous leader’.

The inspiration behind these events came from the Academy’s Five Provocations for the Future for Health and Social Care. The need for courage and courageous leadership in the health and social care system was identified in the Five Provocations as a key component for bringing about transformational change. These events were held to explore this further and hear the real life stories of Scotland’s courageous leaders.

The events featured conversations and presentations focused on how we can help unlock the potential of Scotland’s future leaders and engage people of all ages and backgrounds in creating and growing a vision of courageous leadership that can contribute to the transformation of our health and social care sector, and Scottish society more broadly.

The report gives an overview of each of the three events; Exploring Courageous Leadership at Every Age, Unleashing Courageous Leadership at Every Age: Women in leadership, 100 years on and  ‘Why is courage important for health and social care?’ and features quotes and stories from the event contributors.

The ‘Exploring Courageous Leadership’ report is now available to read online. Our Academy Programme Manager Sarah Forster has also written an opinion piece.
