Tommy will speak about General Practice Nurses and their ability to act as compassionate leaders, leading change and transforming care
Our UK Lead Tommy Whitelaw has been invited to speak at the upcoming General Practice Nursing Introduction to Leadership Course in Edinburgh on the 31st May.
Tommy will emphasise that absolutely anyone, at any level of care, can make a difference and improve the experiences of the people they care for.
At the end of the course attendees will be asked if their view of leadership has changed and how they will take their new outlook forward to impact upon their day to day practice.
The course intends to develop and enhance the leadership skills of General Practice Nurses, which the course organisers believe is particularly relevant in light of the new Scottish GP Contract.
The ALLIANCE recently undertook a consultation seeking people’s views on the new GP Contract. You can read the findings of our consultation in our newly published report, including “the perception that being referred to a practice nurse is seen as the ‘lesser option’ even when they are the most appropriate professional to meet the person’s needs.”
We recognise as a programme that everyone in health and social care has a leadership role to play, and we would like to thank Lynne Innes, the National Coordinator for General Practice Nursing at NHS Education for Scotland, for inviting Tommy to speak at this event.
