Scottish Government COVID-19 guidance for the Third Sector

Section: The ALLIANCEType: News Item Date Published: 19th March 2020

An update from the Scottish Government Third Sector Unit on actions they are taking to support the third sector.

For Third Sector Unit (TSU) stakeholders

As you will be experiencing yourselves these are truly unprecedented times.  There is a real need for Scottish Government and third sector to work together as closely as possible.  To this end they are doing a number of things.

Firstly the Cabinet Secretary for Local Government and Communities has announced a major package of support (this link will take you away from our website) for communities.  TSU and colleagues across the Scottish Government will be developing details in the coming days.

Secondly, they are working with SCVO who have established a COVID-19 Third Sector Information Hub (this link will take you away from our website).  This will include up to date official guidance and will gather up emerging issues to assist us in responding.

Thirdly the Third Sector Unit has been restructured on a temporary basis into;

  • Third Sector funding and organisational resilience, headed by Calum Irving
  • Safe volunteering and co-ordination, headed by Laura Turney

You should contact the people you normally work with and where necessary new people will be in touch to introduce themselves.  Organisations not ordinarily supported by the Third Sector Unit should continue to contact your relevant policy lead in Scottish Government.  They are also working closely with the Scottish Government’s Resilient Communities Team which is headed by Ralph Throp.

Fourthly they are working as quickly as possible to issue confirmation of funding and grant letters.

As the days progress they will communicate more developments via the SCVO COVID-19 Third Sector Information Hub (this link will take you away from our website) and direct to stakeholders where possible.

“Understandably these are very challenging times for all of us. Please bear with us as we work as quickly as possible to respond to your requests and suggestions which have all been very helpful.  We are very grateful for your co-operation at this time.”
