The Scottish Government want your feedback in a new service they are developing to help people move to Scotland.

Scotland’s Migration Service is an online information and advice resource for people who have recently arrived in Scotland, international students, employers, and investors.

The service provides reception support for people who have moved to Scotland to help them settle into their communities. This support involves information and one-to-one advice from trained advisers on a range of topics, including immigration and visas, health services, housing, education and accessing local services. International students receive immigration advice on how to extend or switch from their student visas so they can stay in Scotland after graduating.

The service also supports employers to navigate the UK immigration system to help meet their skills and labour needs, and inward investors seeking immigration advice on setting up a business in Scotland.

The Scottish Government launched the first phase of this project in March 2024 and you can learn more about it here.

They will launch the next phase in the autumn, where they will provide a more comprehensive offer of information on the website and widen the scope to meet the needs of individuals located outside Scotland with an interest in moving to Scotland.

To design the next phase of the service, they would like to conduct research with people who have the following characteristics:

  • People who have experience of migrating to Scotland
  • And who are living with disabilities or have low confidence using technology or who speak English as a second language.

This research will allow them to ensure the service is accessible to all. The research will involve participating in an interview and/or reviewing draft webpages. Research participants will be paid an incentive (equivalent to £70 per hour that can be paid by cash or through vouchers) for taking part, which will be sent following the session.

The research can take place online via video call. They are also able to conduct research in person at offices in Edinburgh. Any participants travelling for the research would have their travel expenses reimbursed.

All Scottish Government research is governed by a strict ethics process to ensure participants understand their rights and are treated with dignity and respect.
