Online survey explores young carers’ mental health and wellbeing needs

Carers Trust need your support with a survey to capture the mental health needs and experiences of 15-17 year old young carers.

Carers Trust are the UK partner, with the University of Sussex, of the “ME-WE” project, an ambitious research and innovation project funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 programme, featuring the involvement of a European consortium of universities, research institutes and civil society organisations.

Over 39 months, the ME-WE project aims to strengthen the resilience of young adult carers, in order to positively impact their mental health and wellbeing. The ME-WE project adopts a multidisciplinary and co-design approach: researchers will engage directly with and involve young adult carers, together with major stakeholders (educators, health and social care professionals, youth organisations, carer organisations) through all the stages of the project.

The effective policy frameworks and good practices that have been identified will serve as the basis for an innovative framework of primary prevention interventions to be adapted and tested in 6 countries: the United Kingdom, Sweden, Slovenia, Switzerland, Italy, and the Netherlands. In doing so, the ME-WE project seeks to ensure good mental health and wellbeing, which is increasingly recognised as an important driver of economic growth and social development in Europe.

The first activity of this project is a survey aimed to capture the needs and experiences of 15-17 year old young carers/young adult carers regarding their mental health.

Carers Trust would be grateful if any organisations or professionals who work with young carers were able to circulate the survey via your own communications channels and to any 15-17 year olds you work directly with who have a caring role.

The survey closes towards the end of September.

Please get in touch with Carers Trust (by emailing lcrawford@carers.org) if you’ve managed to circulate the link or encourage response by young carers.
