Proposed transitions bill consultation closing date extended

Section: Policy into PracticeType: News Item Date Published: 27th January 2020

Call for views on Johann Lamont MSP's Members' Bill now closes on 31 January 2020.

The proposed Bill would require Scottish Ministers to introduce, and implement, a National Transitions Strategy to improve outcomes for children and young people with a disability in the transition to adulthood. It would also require local authorities to introduce a transitions plan ensuring each child and young person with a disability receives appropriate care and support before, and during, the transition to adulthood; and for connected purposes.

Supported by Camphill Scotland and Inclusion Scotland, the next stage for the Members’ Bill will be to seek support from MSPs from across the Scottish Parliament in order to proceed further.

A template letter has been published by supporters of the Bill’s aims, alongside an “answer book” which aims to make responding easier.
