Social Security Scotland introduce a new £200 Child Winter Heating Assistance

Section: Policy into PracticeType: News Item Date Published: 24th November 2020

The new annual payment will be paid to children and young people with disabilities to support with increased heating costs in winter.

Child Winter Heating Assistance will help families of children receiving the highest rate care component of Disability Living Allowance for children. The payment is made per individual rather than per household, which means there are no limits to the number of children per family who can receive this payment.

This is an automatic payment to make it as easy as possible for people to get the money they are entitled to. Families who are eligible will receive a letter in advance to confirm that they will be getting the payment.

This is the first disability related payment that Social Security Scotland will make. Payments will start to be made from Friday 27 November and completed by Friday 11 December.
