Professor Miller is leading work to bring international human rights into Scottish law.

In a forthcoming interview, the ALLIANCE will be speaking to Professor Alan Miller, co-chair of the National Taskforce for Human Rights Leadership (this link will take you away from our website).

The National Taskforce was created by the Scottish Government in 2019. Its role is to “establish a statutory framework for human rights that can bring internationally recognised human rights into domestic law and protect the human rights of every member of Scottish society.” Professor Miller co-chairs the National Taskforce with Cabinet Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP. Other members include representatives of Scottish civil society and the public sector.

ALLIANCE members can propose questions for this interview with Professor Miller – please send them to event@alliance-scotland.org.uk by Friday 29 January 2021.

A recording of the interview will be aired at the new ALLIANCE event – People at the Centre: ALLIANCE Digital Gathering – at 2pm on Wednesday 24 February 2021. Registration will open soon.

The ALLIANCE and Inclusion Scotland commissioned a report by well-regarded academician, Dr Kasey McCall Smith, about bringing the UN Convention on the Rights of Disabled People into Scots law. A separate session at the ALLIANCE’s Digital Gathering will explore this further.
