Supporting Scotland’s lung health is more vital than ever before

The ALLIANCE has responded to a consultation on Scotland's draft respiratory care action plan.

The ALLIANCE  has welcomed proposals to improve care and support for people living with respiratory conditions in Scotland.

Responding to the Scottish Government’s draft respiratory care action plan, we outlined that treating respiratory health as a national clinical priority is vital, particularly in response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our submission highlights that the virus may lead to more people living with the day to day impact of conditions affecting their lungs, and calls for an increase in the level of community based support that is in place to support their rehabilitation.

Our response:

  • Calls for an ambitious strategy with targets and timescales, that fully reflects the impact of COVID-19 on respiratory health in Scotland
  • Asks the Government to find mechanisms to ensure that people affected by respiratory conditions and the third sector organisations that work with them, are involved in the oversight of the strategy’s implementation
  • Calls for improved access to palliative care for people throughout all stages of living with a life-limiting respiratory condition
