ALISS launch a new form for contributors to add services and resources to the system.
ALISS is ‘A Local Information System for Scotland’; its vision is that everyone in Scotland can access the information they need to help them live well. ALISS provides a searchable web-based information platform, allowing users to find relevant local and national services, groups, activities, and resources.
As part of the Democratising Access to Community Services (DACS) project, funded by the UK Research and Innovation’s Innovate UK fund, the ALISS team and project partners have been working to improve the experience of ALISS for those that add information to it. They’ve taken a person centred approach and conducted user research with ALISS contributors and searchers to understand what changes would improve their experience. The feedback gathered has directly informed the new form, which now contains the following:
- A landing page with information about what to expect from the form.
- A step-by-step process with clearly defined sections to click through.
- A summary section to review information prior to submitting it to ALISS.
- A progress bar to help users keep track of where they are in the process.
- Three new sections of information to add to ALISS:
- ‘Who’ – a place to include details about whether the service is geared towards any communities, such as refugees and asylum seekers or the LGBTQ+ community.
- ‘Accessibility’ – a place to include details about particular features that support people while accessing the service, such as accessible parking or free Wi-Fi.
- ‘Media’ – a place to add images or a video to provide more context of the service that is being offered.
Digital Assistance Director, Chris Mackie, said:
“The DACS project has given us the opportunity to work more directly with people using ALISS to understand what their needs and desires are for the system. We hope that this new data input form will be a starting point for improving the user experience on ALISS, by moving to a clearer and more transparent process and providing sections to add more kinds of valuable information.
As we continue to develop the ALISS programme, we look forward to creating ways for our searchers to sort and filter by these new categories and get them more quickly and easily to the information they’re looking for.”
