Update on Scottish Government cancer strategy published

The Scottish Government has given an update on the implementation of the 2016 cancer strategy - 'Beating Cancer: Ambition and Action'.

Introducing the document, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport notes recognises areas of real success and progress in Scotland’s strategic response to cancer over previous years.

Jeane Freeman MSP also says that the update draws attention to “areas of unmet need where we can and must do more” and outlines an aspiration to test changes that could be integrated on a national basis.

In total, the document sets out will set out 53 actions to be taken forward.

The update also highlights the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on people living with cancer. The Scottish Government has convened a national cancer treatment response group, who are providing ongoing advice and guidance on the issue.
