UWS Ayr Campus pledge tree continues to flourish

The Dementia Carer Voices team returned to UWS Ayr Campus in September 2019 to deliver two more 'Make a Difference' sessions.

Over the last seven years, the Dementia Carer Voices project has been invited to speak to students and staff at universities across Scotland to encourage them to pledge to the ‘Make a Difference’ campaign.

As a part of this ongoing ‘You Can Make a Difference’ University Tour, the Dementia Carer Voices team has worked with UWS every academic year.

Our Project Lead Tommy Whitelaw was invited to return to UWS on 13 September for two more sessions at the Ayr Campus alongside Professor Fiona McQueen CNO For Scotland, Shaun Maher Person-Centred Care Advisor to the Scottish Government and Carmen Duto, Development Officer at the ALLIANCE.

Last year, we helped launch the campus pledge tree which was designed by UWS Digital Art graduate Michelle Logan; the wood was donated by Hope Homes. The tree pledges continue to encourage values based reflective practice and create a space where students can return to in order to remind themselves of who they are and what motivated them to become a nurse in the first place.

We would like to extend our thank you to:

  • Fiona Millar, Senior Lecturer UWS
  • Alison Toner, Lecturer UWS
  • All UWS staff and students for inviting us and
  • Fiona McQueen and Shaun Maher for delivering inspirational sessions.

We look forward to returning in 2020.
