Gary, one of our Community Links Practitioners, introduces himself in our latest blog.
In 140 characters, what is your role at the ALLIANCE?
Community Links Practitioner based in Possilpark and Springburn.
My most recent role was working on an exercise referral scheme. I helped people with long term conditions achieve their fitness goals. It gave me great satisfaction helping people achieve and surpass their goals.
Biggest learning experience in previous or current role?
One of the biggest things I have learned is how powerful just genuinely listening and validating someone’s story can be. Realising that I don’t always have to have a solution for everyone’s problems.
Twitter, Facebook or Instagram?
I use Twitter for work but I love taking photos and like to post some of them up on Instagram.
In my spare time I like…
Spending time with my family, going for family walks and family days out. I also started learning guitar last year. I also love keeping fit which keeps me physically and mentally healthy.
When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up?
An entrepreneur, I admire some of the qualities of people who have started with nothing and built a business. I love a good rags to riches story.
Trade places with someone for 1 day, who would it be?
Chris Hadfield when he was the commander of the ISS. What an amazing experience it would be to orbit the Earth. Also it would be cool to play guitar in space.
Planes, trains or automobiles?
Has to be planes especially when going somewhere with a warmer climate.
