Marianne introduces herself in our latest blog.

In 140 characters, what is your role at the ALLIANCE?

Development Officer in the Self Management team offering support to all things promoting Self Management in Scotland.

Previous experience…

My most recent role was in Events and Communications in the ALLIANCE but prior to that I worked in Business Development in the hospitality trade and had a stint as an events assistant at SQA. Most of my working life has been in events but I also have a degree in Criminal Justice.

Biggest learning experience in previous or current role?

Don’t be scared of aiming higher. For years I was guilty of applying for jobs I was sure I could get as I was scared of the knockback but when I took the leap to apply for something which I thought was out of reach I got it and I will always be aware of that now.

Twitter, Facebook or Instagram?

I am a huge fan of Instagram, I absolutely adore photos. I currently have about 3000 photos on my phone alone.

In my spare time I like…

To socialise with friends. There’s nothing better than be surrounding by your friends and lots of tasty food. I also travel to London a couple of times each month as my partner lives there so I like exploring all the quirky places in and around London.

When you were younger what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be an optician as I used to love getting an eye exam, I had no idea what it actually entailed and I was never good at science in school so it soon changed. Although I still question now what I want to be when I grow up…

Trade places with someone for 1 day, who would it be?

I’m going to be truthful and say Beyonce. It has to be!

Planes, trains or automobiles?

I love the train when I’m heading to London. I get myself a good book and go into my own wee world for a few hours.
