Striving to increase opportunities, reduce poverty and increase participation for people with long term conditions in Scotland

My Skills, My Strength, My Right to Work is funded by the Equality Fund to offset the injustice of people with long term conditions being disproportionately disadvantaged in the workplace. The project has been enormously welcomed by our membership (+2000 plus), who are more than aware that a person with a disability or living with a long term condition experience a likelihood of unemployment 50% higher than the rest of the population, with the remaining half being more likely to occupy lower status and less secure jobs (Scottish Government, 2010).

The project is to build on previous successes of this project, continuing and developing its work which would include a focus on working with employers, people with long term conditions, employability projects, striving to increase opportunities, reduce poverty and increase participation for people with long term conditions through employment.

Our aim is to improve access to personal development, learning opportunities and to the labour market for people with long term conditions by increasing promotion of opportunities for learning, spreading good practice and effective-evidence based approaches. Increase capacity of employers to access useful and practical guidance on good practice in supporting employees to manage their condition and maintain their employment.
Increase aspirations amongst those who live with long term conditions to access and excel in employment, adopting asset based approaches and using self management as a tool.
