{"id":1042,"date":"2023-03-20T15:47:54","date_gmt":"2023-03-20T15:47:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alliance-scotland.org.uk\/policy-and-research\/?page_id=1042"},"modified":"2023-03-20T15:50:36","modified_gmt":"2023-03-20T15:50:36","slug":"scottish-covid-19-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.alliance-scotland.org.uk\/policy-and-research\/policy\/covid-19-and-long-covid\/scottish-covid-19-inquiry\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ALLIANCE has called consistently for an independent, rights based inquiry to take place without delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2021, we signed a joint civil society letter to the First Minister calling for a public inquiry into Scotland\u2019s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. We also asked the Scottish Government to commission an independent, person centred inquiry in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliance-scotland.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/ALLIANCE-SP-2021-Election-Manifesto-WEB.pdf\">manifesto for the 2021 Scottish Parliament Election<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In October 2021 we published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliance-scotland.org.uk\/blog\/news\/putting-people-at-the-centre-of-an-independent-inquiry-into-covid-19\/\">briefing <\/a>recommending key issues to be included in the remit of the Inquiry, and how it should be done to ensure that people are at the centre and everyone&#8217;s voices are heard. We <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alliance-scotland.org.uk\/blog\/news\/the-alliance-calls-for-human-rights-to-be-prioritised-in-the-covid-19-public-inquiry\/\">called for human rights and social care to be prioritised and explicitly embedded within the Inquiry&#8217;s Terms of Reference<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, the ALLIANCE was granted core participant status in the Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry. The ALLIANCE will represent third sector organisations, disabled people, people living with long term conditions and unpaid carers in relation to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the design and delivery of a vaccination strategy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the requirement for shielding and associated assistance programmes, provided or supported by public agencies<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the provision of healthcare services and social care support, including the management and support of staff and the recognition, involvement and support of unpaid carers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In early 2023 the ALLIANCE responded to a Rule 8 notice from the Inquiry requesting evidence and documents relating to the handling of COVID-19 in Scotland. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can find out more about core participant status on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.covid19inquiry.scot\/core-participants\">Scottish COVID-19 Inquiry website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>End of page.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the ALLIANCE has called consistently for an independent, rights based inquiry to take place without delay.
