My Support My Choice<\/strong> was a joint project between the ALLIANCE and Self Directed Support Scotland (SDSS) (this link will take you away from our website)<\/a>, funded by the Scottish Government. The project aimed to establish how Self-directed Support (SDS) and social care is working in practice for social care users (people who get support or services paid for by the council so that they can do everyday tasks) across Scotland. The findings identify key improvements that would respond to people\u2019s concerns, build on existing good practice and increase the effectiveness and reach of positive SDS\/social care experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project sought the experiences of anyone who received SDS or has been assessed in the last 12 months, regardless of the outcome of this process. MSMC asked people questions about how they got information about SDS, how much choice and control they had over their social care, communication and relationships with social work, care staff recruitment, training and quality, and their access to independent advocacy, advice and support.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between November 2018 and February 2020, we heard about the experiences of 637 people via a survey, interviews and focus groups.\u202f\u202fEveryone who took part in the project had their responses anonymised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 15 October 2020 we published the national research report and  on 16 December we published a suite of thematic reports focused on the experiences of different population groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ALLIANCE and SDSS had to take the difficult decision to delay publication of local authority area MSMC reports and delivery of local feedback sessions. These reports were published across autumn and winter 2021\/22, with online feedback sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
