Grampian Opportunities
Grampian Opportunities received funding to build on their previous work and develop a link worker role.
Grampian Opportunities’ Moving Froward Together project aimed to build on the groundwork from the Moving Forward project which facilitates access to information, peer support and condition management approaches, to inspire and motivate disabled people and people with long term conditions to move forward in their lives. The Moving Forward Together project aimed, to build on this foundation and go further, with the objective to work with disabled people and people with long term conditions to plan, manage and deliver services at places where resources do not exist yet, as well as to support people to make best use of existing activities.
Over the five year funding period, Grampian Opportunities was involved both in individual and community building as well. Through their work, they supported people to take up volunteering or in gaining employment, along with increasing people’s knowledge, skills and understanding of life skills, education and other fields. By creating more community activities where none existed, the project also improved connections between information, service providers and individuals, enhancing community capacity building.
From the variety of engagements the project provided, a large number of individuals received support and could choose self management activities that suit them best. From health and wellbeing activities such as strengths and balance exercises or wellbeing taster sessions, through craft groups and life skills group, to healthy working lives and discussion groups, the Moving Forward Together project really allowed people to ‘be in the driving seat’ regarding their condition.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the project moved online and focused on maintaining service and good communication channels to ensure the wellbeing of people involved with the project, including staff. Engagements reduced social isolation and lack of community activities, as well as, through a Community Food Larder, helped those in need receive vital food supply.
This summary is by no means exhaustive of all the fantastic self management engagements and projects Grampian Opportunities undertook during their five years of funding. You can find more detailed information of their work by visiting their website (this link will take you away from our website).
