Highland Third Sector Interface (LGOWIT)

As part of their project Let’s Get On With It Together (LGOWIT) Phase 2, Highland Third Sector Interface aimed to expand their network of education and support for people with a long term condition around self management and peer support, and compliment Phase 1 with a dual regional and local focus in the Highland region. They aimed to offer peer support, peer delivered training, enhanced networking and increased focus on the transitional period from child to adult services.

During the five year period of the project, LGOWIT established and grew several peer support groups, delivered five week training courses, and organised toolkit sessions and online resources such as the Self Management in Challenging Times booklet. The peer support groups reflected the need of the local community, ranging from gardening sessions through history pilots to cookery classes.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, the organisation showed amazing adaptability in moving their services online while also not excluding those who did not have the option of engaging virtually by, for example, posting craft kits to them. Online engagements during the pandemic included coffee and chat meetings, modular courses, and activity sessions. As a result of the quick and thoughtful actions of Highland Third Sector Interface, the LGOWIT Phase 2 project engaged with over 700 people per month during the COVID-19 restrictions.
