COPE Scotland\u2019s \u2018This is My Choice, Things Can Change\u2019 project aimed to support and improve self management by supporting people within the Drumchapel area of Glasgow at an individual, community and organisational level. By engaging with local planning structures, the project intended to transform people\u2019s experiences of using health, social care and related services to enable individuals to have more control in developments moving forward.<\/p>\n

Throughout the five years of the project, COPE developed ways for health and social care professionals to be more confident in offering self management advice for the public. In addition to highlighting the challenges individuals might face while trying to self manage, the organisation supported primary care colleagues in their work around promoting opportunities to acquire skills for self management while also raising awareness of the role health professionals and academics can have in supporting people.<\/p>\n

COPE Scotland also offered several workshops, including suicide awareness training, yoga and arts classes, along with other wellbeing learning opportunities and self management education and support services. As a result of these projects, there are now many local groups working with agencies on matters of importance to the community, taking forward their own plans and priorities of working together in new ways.<\/p>\n

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, showing exceptional resilience and adaptability, COPE Scotland continued to offer support and engagements, for example by holding virtual yoga and relaxation classes. By quickly developing new tools and responses for people to help manage their wellbeing during the pandemic, led by what people were needing, they were able to continue being there for individuals and supporting them through the challenges they might face.<\/p>\n

‘Whit\u2019s happening’ information magazine is a monthly publication which, as well as sharing self management tools, offers information on services and resources as well as providing a platform for feature pieces. Several tip sheets have also been produced, management tips for chronic pain (this link will take you away from our website)<\/a> and advice on how to manage stress (this link will take you away from our website)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

COPE Scotland also developed tools during which offer support in a broad variety of topics, from supporting people to pick up the pieces (this link will take you away from our website)<\/a> of their life following COVID-19, to tools using the power of affirmation (this link will take you away from our website)<\/a> in building confidence.<\/p>\n
