Chest Heart Stroke Scotland were awarded £96,862 in June 2025 to run their project for three years
A 36 month project working in Lothians and Grampian to support people with aphasia and communication difficulties following stroke through a structured programme of supported self management. Delivered with support of volunteers some of whom will have with lived experience of Aphasia, the course is currently assumed to be 12 weeks, delivered 4-6 times a year, however content and structure will be reviewed with lived experience volunteers regularly.
Learning will be gained from a deepening understanding of the challenges and the ways in which the course has to change over the grant term to better support people with aphasia and communication difficulties, any differences in delivery in the two regions, as well as ultimately the course’s impact on individual’s wellbeing and self management.
