Cyrenians were awarded £7,124 in June 2025 to run their project for 12 months

A 12 month project seeking to explore the potential uses of Virtual Reality in supporting people’s mental health and wellbeing primarily through providing controlled and supportive environments to build familiarity with anxiety/stress management techniques to improve emotional control. The tools will be tested in both group and 1:1 settings alongside traditional therapeutic support and a lived experience advisory committee will educate the content and methodologies.

Learning will be gained from how people choose to engage with the support, whether it is shown to be beneficial in 1:1s over groups, if there are particular demographics or specific points of recovery where the support appears more effective. Learning will also be gained from whether combining VR and traditional support means individuals progress quicker, how that could be demonstrated and understood.
