Deaf Links were awarded £86,300 in September 2023 to run their project for 36 months.
The funded project, will support Deaf Link to work together with Dundee Deaf Sports and Social Club, (DDSSC, the traditional Deaf Club in Tayside) and Deaf women who are part of Deaf Links’ DefiniTAY Project (a specialised project providing advocacy and support for Deaf women who have experienced gender based violence) to gather information from women within the Scottish Deaf Community to identify the particular subject areas of Deaf women’s health that they want more information about in their first language, BSL. They will then develop and co-design filming scripts for a series of fully accessible BSL videos on women’s health issues; women’s health information workshops; and peer discussion groups to discuss Deaf women’s health issues in a safe environment. The project will be led by Deaf women with lived experience of health issues/long term conditions and of the barriers they have faced in trying to address the wider detriments of ill- health.
