The Dixon Community
Our purpose is ensure a good quality of life for people aged 55+ and carers.
The Dixon Community provides quality, flexible, person centred services to older people aged over 55 and carers including young carers.
Scottish registered charity, established 1972, based in Dixon Halls, Govanhill serving diverse multicultural communities in South East Glasgow.
Key purposes:
• Equality of opportunity for older people/carers whatever religion, race, colour, ethnic or national origin.
• Provision and organising of care, support, and recreational opportunities to improve the lives of older people/carers
• Supporting older people to continue to live in their own home and carers to continue their caring role
Objectives:
• Identify and deliver with the community, activities for older people and their carers who live in South East Glasgow
• Enable older people to remain socially active, able to access the cultural life of the neighbourhood and to minimise the disadvantaged due to their protected status
• Improve the quality of life and enable people to take more control over their daily lives and well-being
• Provide support to motivate people to improve their financial, physical, mental and emotional wellbeing
We have 2 main projects:
Multicultural Day Opportunities Project including Day Care and an Activity Centre – funded from Glasgow Communities Fund
Glasgow South East Carers Centre – commissioned service forming part of Glasgow City Carers Partnership
