ALLIANCE responds to call for ideas by the Social Renewal Advisory Board

We propose incorporating international human rights law into Scots law, and taking a human rights based approach to budgeting.
The Social Renewal Advisory Board (SRAB)(this link will take you away from our website) was created by the Scottish Government to learn from the different policy and practice that has occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic and use this to deliver equality and social justice. It is focused on reducing poverty and disadvantage, embedding a human rights based approach and advancing equality. Members of SRAB include experts in housing, disability, poverty, homelessness and the third sector, as well as representatives of COSLA and SOLACE.
SRAB issued a ‘call for ideas’ (this link will take you away from our website), asking for organisations and community groups to tell them what needs to change to bring about a Fairer Scotland in the future, based on learning from the pandemic.
The ALLIANCE believes that incorporating international human rights law into Scots law and taking a human rights based approach to budgeting will guarantee that people can enjoy their rights, including at times of crisis. This is particularly pertinent in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, with restrictions and changes to health and social care services, but will also ensure a fairer, more equal Scotland in the longer term.
