An awareness day to shine a light on the impact a playlist of meaningful songs can have for people living with dementia.
Celebrate the power of music with National Playlist Day on 18th September!
National Playlist Day is a campaign led by Playlist for Life, the UK’s leading music and dementia charity. Playlist for Life helps to improve the lives of people affected by dementia through the power of personally meaningful music.
This is the 5th National Playlist Day and Playlist for Life is encouraging everyone to think about 5 songs that make up the soundtrack of their life and create a personal playlist today that could become a lifeline later. Whether it’s five songs or fifty, every meaningful track can help preserve memories, identity and connection.
Decades of research show that for people affected by dementia a playlist of personally meaningful music can help reduce anxiety, improve mood and support connection with family and carers. A personal playlist can help make everyday activities more manageable and reduce the need for some medications used to manage symptoms.
You can also keep up to date with the awareness day and all related content on social media by searching for the hashtag: #NationalPlaylistDay
You can learn more about personal playlists and how they can help people live well with dementia on the National Playlist Day website.
Playlist for Life also have a host of online resources available to help compile the soundtrack of your life on their website here.
