This webinar is part of our Autumn programme of events on women’s health – see here for the full women’s health event programme delivered in partnership with the Scottish Government’s Women’s Health Plan team: https://www.alliance-scotland.org.uk/blog/news/alliance-womens-health-spring-events-programme/
In 2023 the ALLIANCE launched a Conversation Café toolkit in support of the Scottish Government Women’s Health Plan . With this toolkit we bring together resources, recommendations and guidance on hosting independent Conversation Cafes to encourage information sharing and peer support on areas of women’s health [1].
We are hosting a session on 19 November 10-11 on Zoom, to provide information on the toolkit, and advice on how to use it. This session is for those that are considering using the toolkit with their own group to host a Conversation Cafe, facilitators who have already used it but are looking for tips and support, and for those who are generally interested in promoting positive discussion spaces on women’s health. To attend, register via Zoom using this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/FlyDwf-qQUOxwhRbVb9sAg
A Conversation Café is an informal space where a small group of people can come together in a facilitated but open conversation on a particular topic. There is emphasis placed on creating an environment where relationships are formed, where everyone feels comfortable to speak, but where listening is also a valuable act. The Conversation Cafés for women’s health can act as platforms for debunking myths and dispelling shame and stigma that may surround many health conditions and experiences, by bringing people together in a positive and supportive environment. Conversation Cafés can provide a space for connection, tackle isolation and make women feel valued.
You can find a summary of what the toolkit includes here. The toolkit is free to download here. We are also happy to provide print copies for those looking to set up their own Café. Email whp@alliance-scotland.org.uk to arrange.
The ALLIANCE will be using Zoom for this event. The event is not designed to elicit personal information from participants, however, should you register to attend you must be aware that Zoom.us transfers personal data to the USA and that any personal data you choose to share will be transferred to a country that does not provide adequate protection and that no adequate safeguards aimed at providing protection for the data are being implemented.
Notes
[1] The Women’s Health Plan and ALLIANCE women’s health programme uses the term ‘women/woman’ throughout but it is important to highlight that it is not only those who identify as women who require access to women’s health and reproductive services. The actions within the Plan make it clear that all healthcare services should be respectful and responsive to individual needs. The ALLIANCE is clear that everyone has human rights and that every individual, regardless of their identity, should be treated with dignity and respect, including when accessing public services.
