The ALLIANCE have signed a joint letter to public authorities outlining the need to take steps to implement international human rights now.

Public authorities play a crucial role in delivering the things that fulfil our human rights; housing, healthcare, a clean environment, and much more. The ALLIANCE have signed a joint letter asking chief execs of public authorities to demonstrate their commitment to human rights.

The joint letter, led by the Human Rights Consortium Scotland, urges public authorities to take steps to implement international human rights now. The letter emphasises that we do not need to wait for incorporation of international human rights legislation to be clear about our human rights. Our human rights are already set out at an international level and agreed to by the UK.

The letter adds that it is not enough for incorporation laws to be passed – it is important that public authorities now takes steps to prepare to fully implement them in practice.
