Draft legislation being considered by the COVID-19 Committee would help staff if they are ill with Coronavirus or are self-isolating.

The ALLIANCE has submitted a response to the Scottish Parliament’s COVID-19 Committee consultation (this link will take you away from our website) on draft legislation that would establish a ‘Social Care Staff Support Fund’. We have indicated our support for the plan, and made several recommendations for improvement, including:

  • It is essential that the Fund is accessible to all members of the social care workforce, including those who work in the third and independent sectors.
  • The Fund must be fully accessible to Personal Assistants (PAs), including in situations where family members have been employed as PAs, which has been more widely permitted as a result of COVID-19.
  • Thorough Equalities and Human Rights Impact Assessments should be carried out on the draft law.
  • Transparent and accessible information about the Fund should be co-produced with disabled people, people with long term conditions, and unpaid carers.
