A new learning hub on challenging weight stigma has launched on Public Health Scotland’s virtual learning platform.
The Challenging Weight Stigma Learning Hub aims to raise awareness of the impact of weight stigma and provide insights that can empower healthcare professionals to reduce weight stigma.
Weight stigma is associated with physical and mental health concerns, is a barrier to accessing support and undermines public health efforts. It is experienced in many settings across society, including in healthcare.
Informed by people with lived experience of higher weight and weight stigma, the hub aims to increase awareness of weight stigma and the impact it has on individuals, as well as identifying actions that can be taken to address it.
The learning hub is free, and available to all. It is aimed primarily at those who who in health and social care, public sector, third sector and community-based organisations. It provides content in sections with animations, video and support to take the learning into practice.
