A current research project is exploring the physical challenges faced day-to-day in care, both by carers and by the people they support, to understand where genuine help is needed rather than introducing technology for technology’s sake.

Most existing research in this space starts from the technology and works backwards. This project is trying to do the opposite: understand the real, specific problems first, both what’s hard for the person receiving care and what’s hard for the person supporting them, before working out whether anything, robotic or otherwise, can actually help.

Who can take part?

  • Frontline care staff
  • Unpaid carers or family carers
  • Anyone else connected to day-to-day care

What’s involved?

  • A short anonymous survey, takes about 5 minutes
  • Asks about specific things you and the person you support have actually dealt with, not hypothetical opinions
  • No prior knowledge of robotics or technology needed
  • If you’re open to a longer follow-up conversation, there’s an optional box for that at the end

This survey is being carried out by Abdulbasit Yekeen, a Masters student at Heriot Watt University, as part of a personal project. If you have any questions, please contact him at ay4025@hw.ac.uk.

Thank you in advance for taking part and helping ground this research in what’s actually happening day-to-day, for both carers and the people they care for.
