Professor Emma Thompson provides insight on the UK wide study testing the efficacy of booster vaccines in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cov-Boost is a UK wide study that is currently underway establishing the effectiveness of a third dose of seven different COVID-19 vaccines. The study is being led by the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and is utilising a network of trial-sites throughout the UK.

In a short video produced by the ALLIANCE, Professor Emma Thompson who leads the trials at the Greater Glasgow and Clyde site provides further information as to the purpose of the trial and its importance. Professor Thompson describes the declining immune response that is normal for all vaccines as time progresses and explains why booster vaccines are necessary to replenish our body’s antibodies to the virus. The video also contains information on when results from the study will be passed to the UK Government’s vaccination committee (JCVI).
