The General Pharmaceutical Council has published a new strategy for managing concerns about pharmacy professionals.

Following recent consultation, the General Pharmaceutical Council has published its new strategy, ‘Managing concerns about pharmacy professionals: our strategy for change 2021-26’ (this link will take you away from our website).

The consultation feedback outlined a need to move away from an approach that can – at times – be adversarial and slow, and can often have an unintended adverse impact on the mental health and wellbeing of people involved.

The new strategy outlines how the Council will take actin to protect people when needed, while at the same time promoting and encouraging a learning culture that allows pharmacy professionals to deal with any concerns and go back to practising in appropriate circumstances.

An implementation plan will be published in Autumn 2021, setting out the practical steps that will be taken to improve how concerns are managed about pharmacy professionals. It will also cover how wider system failures will be identified.
