The campaign seeks to modernise abortion law and protect reproductive rights in Scotland.

The Health and Social Care Alliance (the ALLIANCE) is pleased to support Engender’s “Let’s Change the Act” campaign, which seeks to modernise abortion law and protect reproductive rights in Scotland.

Launched on 29 October 2025, the campaign brings together health, policy and legal experts, trade unionists and equality advocates to highlight the need for change. The campaign highlights how current legislation is outdated, rooted in archaic laws that criminalise abortion and fail to recognise it as essential healthcare.

Let’s Change the Act calls for:

  • The full decriminalisation of abortion in Scotland, and
  • A modern, rights based framework to replace the Abortion Act 1967

The campaign outlines that these changes would bring Scotland in line with international standards and ensure that no one is criminalised for seeking or providing abortion care.
