Encouraging self management supported conversations with DrawingOut
Recorded remotely during COVID-19, in this ALLIANCE Live interview Senior Development Officer Rhona Millar speaks with Dr Sofia Gameiro and Dr Elisabeth El Rafaie, academics from the University of Cardiff who have developed DrawingOut, a tool which can support people, in particular people living with invisible conditions, to communicate their experiences through drawing.
In this discussion, Elisabeth and Sofia share how DrawingOut (this link will take you away from our website) was initially used as a tool for sessions with women from BME communities to support them to share their experiences around taboo or difficult to talk about subjects, such as infertility. DrawingOut has developed into a model with wide ranging applications such as to encourage self management supported conversations for people living with invisible conditions. Sofia and Elisabeth also discuss findings from their research which suggests outputs from DrawingOut sessions can foster greater empathy from healthcare professionals.

Wellbeing Wednesday – Pain Association
In this week’s Wellbeing Wednesday, Phil Sizer, lead trainer at Pain Association talks us through his ‘Self Management Bootcamp’ which is designed to help you develop a healthy routine to look after your health and wellbeing at home.
This is a good introduction to the way that different areas of our health and wellbeing are connected, and is a useful tool to help you think about any areas of your life that are particularly good or where you may want to make changes. It is designed for people living with chronic pain but is a useful tool for anyone, particularly during COVID-19, when many of us are facing challenging times.
