Interview-based research highlights the experiences of people with dementia, carers, and eye care professionals

Researchers from the University of Melbourne have published a new article in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease exploring ways to improve the experiences of eye examinations for people living with dementia.

They also investigated the experiences of eye care professionals in adapting their practice for people with dementia during eye examinations.

The main findings highlighted a need for improved education and training for eye care professionals to better support people with dementia.

There is also a need to break down barriers to enable people to discuss their dementia diagnosis with their eye care professional so that assessments can be tailored to each individual.
