We asked Aaron for his views at our Action: The 2nd Health and Social Care Integration Event.

At our Annual Conference, Action: The 2nd Health and Social Care Integration Event on 4 June 2018, we interviewed a range of delegates to monitor their opinions on the conference and their thoughts on how to implement action in health and social care.

Aaron works as part of Communic18, which is a co-design group created by The Year of Young People (YoYP) 2018 (this link will take you away from our website). The group are working with organisations across all 32 local authorities, making sure young people are influencing the design, delivery and decision making for YoYP 2018.

We asked Aaron the question:

If you were to prioritise one thing (and money and resource was no object) to action what would it be and how would it improve health and social care?

Aaron – I think for me it would definitely be increasing the support for young people. Right now, when young people are looking for health and social care support, particularly for maybe mental health or homelessness, they have to jump over lots of hurdles just to get an appointment or booking or just to get to get somebody to listen to them, and its very difficult for a young person to jump over each of those hurdles and keep up their morale and will to keep going. So a lot of young people sort of just give up after speaking to a couple of people who just shrug them off. I think definitely giving them a lot more freedom to voice their opinions, giving them access to more support would definitely be one way of increasing health and social care for young people.
