COPE Scotland have developed a suite of resources to rebuild confidence and self-belief, crucial components of mental wellbeing.

Confidence Counts and Self-Belief Matters

Confidence and self-belief are crucial components of our mental wellbeing. They enable us to face life’s myriad challenges with a positive outlook. However, several factors can impact our confidence and self-belief. Changes in our health or that of a loved one, concerns about the future, and the current global climate—marked by the lingering effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, economic uncertainties, and widespread unrest—can all play a significant role in how we perceive ourselves and our abilities.

Energy Management and Perspective

Our energy is finite, and how we choose to use it is vital. The narrative we create about our circumstances can either drain us or serve as a source of inspiration. It’s important to recognise that while challenges are inevitable, we have the power to decide how to respond to them. By focusing on elements within our control, such as acquiring new skills or perspectives, we can bolster our confidence and self-belief.

Resources to Rebuild Confidence

Listening to the experiences of nearly 300 individuals regarding challenges to confidence and self-belief and with the support of the National Lottery Awards for All and Glasgow Wellbeing Fund, we have developed a suite of resources aimed at aiding personal growth and empowerment. These resources include:

  • Reflective Workbook: A guide to becoming your own confidence architect, helping you design a framework for self-belief.
  • Confidence Scorecard: A tool to track the steps you’ve taken towards building a more confident self, reinforcing positive progress.
  • Confidence Dude: A fun, interactive resource to regularly assess and boost your confidence levels.
  • Jigsaw Lid Resource: A reflective tool that allows you to identify and assemble the pieces necessary for building your confidence.
  • Confidence for sailing on the sea of life Poster: A visual aid that highlights common challenges to confidence and suggests actionable steps to overcome them.
  • LAPS Infographic: A simple guide to inspire action through learning, applying, practicing, and sharing, especially when fear of failure looms.
  • Confidence Postcard: A creative medium offering ideas on building self-confidence and an opportunity to make personal commitments.

Beyond Self Management

While self-care and self management are beneficial, they may not suffice for everyone. These resources are not intended to replace professional advice but rather to provide additional support and ideas for regaining or enhancing a sense of self-agency. They serve as a starting point for those looking to rebuild their confidence and self-belief.

Accessibility and Sharing

These resources are available for free download at http://www.copescotland.com. We encourage you to visit, utilize, and share them with others who may benefit. Although we currently lack the budget to offer these resources in multiple formats, we invite you to translate or adapt them in ways that suit your needs.

While the journey to rebuilding confidence and self-belief can be challenging, it is a path worth pursuing. By focusing on what we can control, utilising available resources, and supporting one another, we can foster a more confident and empowered community.
