Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) in Scotland’s annual Welfare Rights Conference returns to Glasgow on Friday 7 June

2024 will be a critical election year. What difference could it make to the future of social security, the lives of low-income families and the work of frontline advisers?  This event provides a unique opportunity to get up to speed with the latest developments in UK and Scottish social security as well as join discussion with political leaders, social security experts and policy thinkers to discuss what’s needed next from our social security system.

Setting the scene for the day we will be keynote speaker Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Shirley-Anne Somerville MSP, alongside John Dickie, Director of CPAG in Scotland. At the afternoon plenary session, the panel of Emma Congreve of Fraser Allander Institute, Gavin Kelly of Resolution Foundation and Sara Ogilvie at CPAG, will explore the issue of Demanding better – what next for social security in a critical election year?

As well as speakers, the conference offers a range of topical workshops to choose from and an exhibition area.
