The ALLIANCE signs joint letter to the Scottish Government on reinstating the Scottish Fuel Insecurity Fund.

In the lead up to the Scottish Budget, the ALLIANCE has signed a joint letter written by Energy Action Scotland, asking the Scottish Government to consider making additional funding available for the Scottish Fuel Insecurity Fund.

The Scottish Fuel Insecurity Fund supports a broad range of households struggling to afford energy bills or are facing increasing energy debts. This fund is also vital in helping Scotland’s advice community support people contacting them for advice on the cost of living and their bills.

Demand on advice organisations will also likely grow now due to the UK Government’s decision to make the Winter Fuel Payment and Pension Age Winter Heating Payments means tested. Due to energy costs and debt, 1 in 3 households are likely to be in fuel poverty this winter and beyond.

In the last budget, the Scottish Government took the unfortunate decision to end the £30 million funding it was previously investing in the Fuel Insecurity Fund in Scotland. This funding had previously helped tens of thousands of households access energy top vouchers, Home Heating Support grants through Advice Direct Scotland and housing association advice and support.

Add your signature to the letter to call on the Scottish Government to make funding available by reinstating the Scottish Fuel Insecurity Fund so people across Scotland don’t have to worry about keeping warm this winter.
